On 16 July 2025, the European Commission published its proposal for the next long-term EU budget — the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework. This budget will determine EU funding for the cultural sector in the coming years. The Council has already formulated its initial position on several issues, and this position is not always favourable to the cultural and creative sector.
However, negotiations are still ongoing, and the Council’s position is not final. For this reason, at the request of Culture Action Europe, of which KIK Lithuania is also a member, we addressed the Minister of Finance with proposals aimed at ensuring stronger representation of the cultural and creative sector when Lithuania is represented in the EU General Affairs Council.
We called for support for increased funding for culture that would respond both to the needs of the sector and to the strategic challenges currently facing Europe.
