On 13 November 2025, KIK Lithuania, together with other cultural organizations — the Lithuanian Culture Institute, Lithuanian Artists’ Association, Lithuanian Composers’ Union, Lithuanian Council for Culture, Lithuanian Association of Art Creators, Lithuanian Film Centre, Association for Film Culture, Independent Producers Association, Lithuanian Publishers Association, and the Association of County Public Libraries — submitted a joint statement to the Seimas and the Government outlining in detail why it is essential to halt the continuous reduction of the cultural budget that has been taking place since 2019 and has contributed to the current critical situation in the cultural sector.
In the statement, we propose that the 2026 budget for the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania be increased by no less than 15% compared to the 2025 budget. Such an increase would at least help maintain the current funding level in real terms in 2026, taking into account the continuous rise in the cost of goods and services, as well as the planned increases in wages and the minimum monthly salary.
