Statement on the 1.2% Personal Income Tax Allocation Procedure

On 14 April, KIK Lithuania sent an official letter to the Office of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, urging the President to veto the amendments to the Law on Charity and Sponsorship adopted by the Seimas, which would once again include budgetary institutions, as well as other organizations that do not operate in the public interest, in the list of eligible recipients of this support.

For NGOs operating in the cultural and creative sector, the 1.2% personal income tax allocation is of particular importance. It has a direct impact on the vitality of the non-governmental cultural sector, and any reduction in this support would significantly limit the accessibility and diversity of high-quality culture, especially in the regions. Therefore, the amendments to the Law on Charity and Sponsorship would further weaken these organizations, as they would be forced to compete for this support under unfair conditions with financially more stable budgetary institutions.
