CULTURE FORUM 2023 IS FINALLY HERE

🌳 The National Culture Forum “Culture and Ecology” has finally come to a close! This year it took place on November 28th in the Lukiškės Prison 2.0, Vilnius.

This is the eighth annual National Culture Forum organized by the National Creative and Cultural Industries Association. It aims to create a space for Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) representatives, decision makers and the general public to meet for an open discussion about the synthesis of culture and ecology.

“Let’s continue to look for ways of how to connect with each other; let’s not lose patience while trying to prove a point and looking for a dialogue; let’s discuss as much as possible, continue the work we have started and change will naturally come,” Laurynas Žakevičius, chairman of the board of NKIKIA, dance artist, founder and manager of the urban dance theater “Low Air”, has no doubts.

🌳 What challenges do creators face in responding to the climate crisis?

🌳 What art initiatives promote a greener way?

🌳 Is dialogue between art, business and politics possible?

🌳 What are the tasks of artists in a changing world?

🌳 Where do culture and ecology meet?

The speakers of the Forum sought answers to these questions: professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, creator of interdisciplinary art, laureate of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Art Gediminas Urbonas, who talks a lot about ecology in his work (USA, Lithuania); creative artist living in the Netherlands, organizer of creative activities, educator Evelina Kvartūnaitė (The Netherlands, Lithuania); startup ecosystem fasilitator Maarthe Schenkels (The Netherlands); the Lithuanian Game Developers Association’s chairman of the board Rytis Jadzevičius (Lithuania); founder of the Center for Overcoming Depression, psychologist Aušra Mockuvienė (Lithuania).

Lithuanian Minister of Culture Simonas Kairys, Prime Minister’s advisor Gabrielė Žaidytė, head of the Environmental Coalition Lina Paškevičiūtė, artist Gediminas Urbonas and the National Creative and Cultural Industries Association’s chairman of the board Laurynas Žakevičius discussed the power of culture for a greener future and the alliance between the CCI community, politicians and business. The discussion was moderated and the Forum was led by NARA journalist Indrė Kiršaitė.

During the event, we discussed how the CCI Sector could transform and contribute to promoting public awareness on the topic of ecology. We hope that the dialogue started between decision-makers, developers and the general public will continue.
