Expectations for the next Minister of Culture: sustainability, innovation and cooperation with NGOs

The cultural and creative industries (CCIs) sector is not only culturally important, but also economically and socially. Edita Sabalionytė, Director of the National Association of Creative and Cultural Industries (NKIKIA), together with other representatives of the country’s cultural community, discussed their expectations for the next Minister of Culture in the LRT KLASIKA radio programme “Ryto Allegro”.

Edita Sabalionytė highlighted some of the key expectations that the Association has for the future Minister. One of the most important one is to ensure the sustainability of the cultural and creative sector ecosystem. This is not only a long-term strategy, but also a way to ensure the steady growth and development of the sector. Cooperation with NGOs and social partners was also highlighted as a prerequisite for the successful development of the sector. The Director hopes that the Minister of Culture will have an innovative approach and will not see the public sector as the only key player in culture, but also the non-governmental sector. The realisation of all these values would be an important step towards strengthening the sector.

Other radio guests also shared their expectations for the next Minister:

💠 Jolanta Karpavičienė, Adviser to the President on Education, Science and Culture, emphasised the comprehensive role and value of culture in shaping civil society;

💠Romas Matulis, President of the Association of Cultural Centres, highlighted the importance of access to and funding of regional culture;

💠Dagnė Vildžiūnaitė, Member of the Board of the Association of Film Culture, expressed the need to take a strategic approach to the film industry and to invest in its creators;

💠 Tadas Vinokuras, Social Democrat, highlighted the importance of passion for culture – for the Minister to be passionate about the sector’s priorities.

We sincerely thank the radio host Marius Eidukonis and all the representatives of the country’s cultural community for their valuable insights.
